Disaster Restoration Firm Continues to Expand & Invest
Last winter was a busy one for Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration. Our crews saw a heightened volume of calls, leading us to expand and invest in our equipment and services for customers in West Virginia and throughout the Ohio Valley Area.
During a recent winter freeze, our entire region felt a strong dip in temperatures which led to hundreds of water losses. At one point, Panhandle’s emergency services teams had 17 active water losses on 9 different college campuses spanning 3 states. The spring and summer months brought intense isolated thunderstorms to the region. At this point, it was almost a weekly routine that a neighborhood within the company coverage area was getting hit.
To account for our growth, our corporate headquarters in Wheeling, WV, has added more staff in all areas of the company. At one fast-growing location, the number of employees nearly tripled in 2018. And similar growth continues today. Let's take a look at some recent events:
In 2018, our company added over 750 pieces of brand-new restoration equipment, including dehumidifiers, air movers, and HEPA air scrubbers to handle more restoration jobs on an annual basis. On a national scale, the United States has seen far more major hurricanes pummel the East Coast in recent years, while our Western stats battle a growing trend of wildfires on an annual basis.
Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration typically deploys Catastrophe Response Teams nationwide when these events occur and our standard coverage area is well-covered. However, in recent years, we have cut back on the national focus because there is much greater demand on a local basis. The total number of calls has been on the rise each year for most of the past decade.
“Many people have asked us why we hadn’t responded to any of these major events (recently). The answer is simple. We have always said that we would never put our home customers in danger of not receiving the ‘Panhandle Standard,’'' said Josh Contraguerro, VP of Marketing for Panhandle. "With the volume of work in our 3 main markets, we made a company decision to make sure our customers were #1. Our employees were working so hard in our coverage area, and we did not want to make them pack up and leave town for an extended period.”
